Abstract

This study aims to determine: (1) how the implementation of strengthening character education through school culture, (2) obstacles and supporters of the implementation of strengthening character education, and (3) the results of the implementation of strengthening character education at MTsN 1 Payakumbuh City. This study uses a qualitative approach. The study was conducted at MTsN 1 Payakumbuh City, in the 2022/2023 academic year. The data sources for this study were informants consisting of the principal as key informant, class teachers, and extracurricular guidance teachers, activities, and documents. Data collection techniques used interviews, observations, and document studies. Data analysis was carried out descriptively qualitatively. The results of the study show that: (1) the implementation of strengthening character education through school culture is carried out through: habituation, role models, stakeholder involvement, compliance with school regulations, school branding, literacy, and extracurricular activities. (2) Obstacles to the implementation of strengthening character education: teachers' ability to advise, influence, and motivate students, difficulty measuring the success of instilling character values, lack of synchronization between the habituation and character modeling instilled in schools with the treatment, habituation, and modeling at home. Meanwhile, supporting factors: parental commitment, teacher commitment in instilling character values, the existence of instruments to monitor achievement, consistency of teachers and students in implementing strengthening character education. (3) The results of implementing strengthening character education include: students becoming pious/righteous individuals, students having high moral integrity, students having commendable morals
